ICC weighing up HQ move back to London - report

KARACHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering a proposal to relocate its headquarters back to London from Dubai, according to a report on Sunday.

Shashank Manohar, president of the Indian board, made the proposal at the last executive board meeting in October and the idea had garnered support, the "Dawn" daily newspaper reported.

"Most of the affiliated members agree on the proposal and have asked the ICC president and chief executive of what would be required to move back the headquarters to London," it said.

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is the first person who scored 17,000 runs in ODIs during the fifth One Day International against Australia in Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.

The moment Tendulkar attained that mark the packed vociferous Rajiv Gandhi Stadium crowd jumped out of their seats and erupted in jubilation.

Tendulkar's wait to reach the 17,000-run mark in One-dayers continued in Mohali as he missed the milestone by just seven runs after getting dismissed for 40 on a dubious decision in the fourth ODI against Australia.

Win against Pakistan boosts N.Zealand cricket: Vettori

ABU DHABI — Captain Daniel Vettori said New Zealand had grown in confidence after winning their three-match one-day series against Pakistan 2-1.

New Zealand scored a seven-run victory over Pakistan here on Monday, having survived an explosive half-century by tail-ender Mohammad Aamir, during which he and Saeed Ajmal scored a new Pakistani record of 103 for the 10th wicket.

"The key thing is that it's a victory no matter how you achieve it," said Vettori, whose team have been without a coach for this series after Andy Moles resigned citing differences with players.

"A win away from home is great, we don't have many and it definitely grows the confidence because there are a lot of inexperienced guys in the team who will learn more."

Sachin Tendulkar rates the 2007 World Cup cricket debacle as the worst moment of his professional career.

In fact, the Master Blaster blamed the setback on batting order blunder.

India could not make it to the Super Eight stage of the high-profile tournament in the West Indies and crashed out after defeats against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and all-rounder Shane Watson will depart Australia's VB Tour of India.

Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel (NSP) announced that after consultation with medical and coaching staff Johnson and Watson will depart Australia's VB Tour of India as they continue to have their workload managed ahead of the upcoming Australian summer and the tour of New Zealand in March.

NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said: "In view of the extremely heavy workload shouldered by Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson since the ICC World Twenty20 in May 2009 and with the imminent start of the Australian summer which includes six Test matches in eight weeks, ODI and Twenty20 series against the West Indies and Pakistan and a tour to New Zealand early next year, the NSP has decided Mitchell and Shane will depart India as soon as possible.

Chelsea have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Ashley Cole is sidelined with a depressed fracture of the tibia.

Cole has been withdrawn from the England squad for their friendly game against Brazil due to the injury.

Cole missed three matches after injuring himself in the Blues' 4-0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in October.

The left-back re-injured himself against Atletico last week, and it could be worse as it is an aggravation of the old injury.

Cole was injected with painkillers to get over the pain threshold and feature for Chelsea in their 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

There is a possibility that the 28-year-old may face a long period of recovery with this injury.

A spokesman for Chelsea confirmed: "Ashley Cole has not been selected in the England squad for their friendly against Brazil.

Ajmal’s best restricts New Zealand to 211

Tuesday, November 10, 2009
ABU DHABI: Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal took a career-best 4-33 to help Pakistan dismiss New Zealand for 211 in 46.3 overs in the third and final day-night international here on Monday.

The 32-year-old initially put brakes on New Zealand, who won the toss and batted, before triggering a middle-order collapse which saw seven wickets falling in the space of 47 runs.

Brendon McCullum, who scored a brilliant hundred in New Zealand’s 64-run win in the second match on Friday, stood out once again with an aggressive 78-ball 76 which included three sixes and six boundaries.

Pakistan won the first match by 138 runs on Tuesday. New Zealand were well on course for a big score but once McCullum got out, caught and bowled by Shoaib Malik, Pakistani spinners led by Ajmal did not allow their rival’s score to prosper.
